This project was pretty cool for the simple fact that the entire building was literally built on a pier. This created a very complex challenge on how to get the crane to where we needed it. Ultimately we engineered a system of custom structural mats for the crane to travel on. The mats distributed the loads back into the piles that were driven down into bedrock at the bottom of the East River. Not only did we fabricate & erect all the structural steel for this project, we also fabricated & installed all the vertical stairs cases in the building. OCI & GSE really enjoyed this project.
