Orange County Ironworks and Gabriel Steel Erectors fabricated and erected the new CTB Connector at LGA Airport. The CTB Connector is to provide access from the new head house to the existing terminal. This structure has to be retrofitted to tie back into the new head house with what we called the “porkchop beams” which were held up on the outside end. Fun fact: the highest portion of the long slopping columns stands 70ft tall. Essentially, our crew had to build this as an alleyway between the new head house and the active airport roadway which added some fun logistical challenges. A tremendous amount of complex fabrication went into this project, especially in the main headers. Our crew at the OCI fabrication shop did a fantastic job. The new main terminal at LGA Airport will span a total of 840,000 square feet!
