Measuring 15,000 square feet, this lounge is the largest in Amex’s global network, featuring a 2-story elevated lounge space and a mechanical penthouse located south of the existing terminal.
Orange County Ironworks and Gabriel Steel Erectors were hired to fabricate and erect the all-new American Express Centurion Lounge located in Terminal 4. A total of 315 tons of structural steel were demanded for this project. The new addition required a system of cantilevers in order to get framing to work with the existing sloped curtain wall. This challenge created some fun when erecting the new 18,000 pound girders up tight to the existing glass As always, our amazing GSE crew got it done.
Here are some facts about Terminal 4:
• it’s the largest terminal at JFK and the only privately operated terminal in the United States.
• it spans nearly 2 million square feet
• it’s home to 34 airlines, has over 12,000 employees, and serves more than 21 million passengers each year.
